1974 Harley XL Sportster Frame
Steve T., from Oklahoma, made available these pictures of the 1974 XL frame that was left over from his IronHead hardtail project.
As you can see, underneath the saddle position, this XL frame has the stamped and welded connection for the rear fender and shock absorber, with the diagonal reinforcement struts to the rear fender attachment points.
Harley stopped using the much stronger (but probably more expensive) cast steel connection somewhere in the second half of the year 1972.
