Don's 1983 Ironhead Project Bike
Don sent us a bunch of very interesting photographs of his 1983 Ironhead Project Bike. On this page we show you the first couple of stages that this Harley XLX Sportster went through.
Part 1 - Original 1983 1000cc Ironhead XLX Sportster
(November 2008)
Don: "Here's my newly aquired 1983 Ironhead Sporty. I intend to make a 50's style bobber out of it... and will definitely paint it a different color. It's an XLX, mileage unknown, and in a little rough shape. But it only cost me $1200.00. I'll send future pics as the re-build progresses."
Part 2 - Initial Stripping / Try Outs
(November 2008)
Don: "I will keep you guys posted. The holidays will slow me down a little as I don't have a garage. I have to move the bike outside for holiday dinners and then back in... and so on and so on. But I'll keep ya informed. I'm researching a jockey shift. And a hardtail frame is definitely on the horizon. That is if the little woman can take the shake... (lol)"
Part 3 - Mock Up Phase
(December 2008)
Don: "I am enclosing some pics of my mock-up before I started the complete tear down. Sorry the couch got in the way. But I've been pretty lucky so far. I have two new rear shocks, thanks DJ and new mini-apes and hand controls, Thanks Chris. However, my tank is full of un-repairable holes and my rear brake rotor is cracked clear thru to the first vent hole... But I'll keep ya posted."
To be continued !
