1969 Sportster XLCH Ironhead
Thank God There's Harleys... So, let's show them!
David sent use these photographs of his 1969 Sportster XLCH Ironhead project bike.
David: "Heheh, well, its a work in progress. I recently bought the bike, it was a total wreck. The tins were the only thing on the bike not completely trashed. It has more oil leaks then I can count, but that will be fixed in the next step."
"It's a 1969 XLCH, although the Ironhead motor is from a 1970 Sportster. No idea when it was switched. The previous owner wasn't the original owner, and the bike has sat in a barn for the last 15 years before I bought it."
David: "I managed to get the bike back running again just to verify it would, and now am getting ready to tear the motor down and do a complete rebuild.
I know it has some top end work cause it came with a extra complete top end which is being worked over now to make it a 1200cc."
"I plan to leave the tins as they are and probably even the oil can, eventhough it has a big dent from the kicker. I don't know why, but I feel like it gives it a bit of character, especially when considering it has more history than me (it's 10 years older than I am! ;-)"
David: "It is a kick only bike.
It is right hand shift and left brake, I am going to convert it to a right hand jockey shift and right foot brake on the forward controls."
I feel it has earned the right to be a little ugly in some places. Overall not a bad bike for $2,200!"
David: "I will take pics as I go through the stages of rebuilding it and when it gets done give you an update."
Well, David, we can't wait!
